Monadnock Media Inc. recently completed work on a large interactive light sculpture which is the centerpiece of the Mississippi Civil Rights museum in Jackson, MS. As the A/V designer and producer, Monadnock relied heavily on Imimot's products both in development and production.
Based on a beloved freedom song, This Little Light of Mine, this interactive light sculpture is at the heart of the museum and provides a contemplative, calming respite from the difficult and tragic stories of Mississippi’s past.
In its interactive mode, each person who walks through the space adds “their light,” symbolizing the power of people coming together for a cause. In show mode, the sculpture comes alive with Freedom Songs performed by Mississippi singers, young and old. The songs inspire visitors just as they inspired civil rights activists during the darkest days of the movement.

During the development process, Monadnock utilized CoGe to rapidly develop visual ideas. CoGe's layering system, effects, and automation allowed us to build compelling compositions, and respond quickly to our client's feedback. In February of 2018 - with the help of system integrator CED and fabricator Transformit - we assembled a physical prototype of several sections of the sculpture. Thanks to CoGe's syphon support, we were able to review our compositions both on the physical prototype, as well as a Virtual Reality prototype of the entire sculpture.
When it came to installation and programming, Vezér was used extensively as an OSC sequencer 'frontend' to our custom render engine. Vezér allowed us to drop in an audio clip and precisely sequence the gallery's 'show mode' without missing a beat, and to automate parameters of the 'ambient' mode so that the gallery never looks the same twice. In this capacity, Vezér is permanently installed and interfaces with the facility exhibit control system via OSC for scheduling.
